Today was one of the most fully planned days of the trip. Benton took the day off from work to partake in the activities, which ended up feeling like the correct decision.

We started by renting bikes from the hostel and then using the (super nice) Copenhagen bike infrastructure to bike to Andersen Bakery, another recommendation that Joe got from the Michelin chef. The pastries were good, and the weather was 10/10.

We then biked all the way out to CopenHill (incineration plant/park/ski slope), where we walked up to the top and got some nice views of the city. There was also a crazy walk climbing wall that went up the entire side of the building (none of us did this, though it would be a cool experience).

We then biked all the way back across the city to tour the Carlsberg Brewery (Carlsberg Brewery Tours). Benton was navigating and ended up taking us all across the water 3 times instead of one, so the ride was longer than expected. We grabbed hot dogs at the brewery before the tour started, and then came the tour.

The tour itself was more of a museum, but it was pretty cool at parts. One highlight/fun fact was that the Carlsberg research laboratory has made a couple large contributions to science, including the discovery of how to purify yeast, and the invention of the pH scale. Overall, this was neat to see.

We then biked back to the hostel, dropped off our things, and took the bus over to GoBoat Boat Rental - Islands Brygge, where we had rented a small electric picnic table boat for a few hours.

Onto the boat we brought:

  • 6 cold beers

  • 6 warm beers (courtesy of Elizabeth not realizing that others care more than her about beer not being warm)

  • 1 big 7% abv beer for Elizabeth

  • A bottle of wine

  • Cheese

  • Bread

  • Grapes

  • Apples

  • Candy

Overall, this was a blast. Elizabeth piloted the most, and started off by pulling out into a bit of a traffic jam of other boats. She hadn’t quite figured out the rudder at this point and ended up spinning us 360 degrees in the wrong direction, but she did manage to avoid hitting the other boats.

We also ended up in a canal while Elizabeth was driving, and a much bigger, much faster tour boat came flying by. Elizabeth reversed a bit to avoid hitting the wall of the canal, but then kept reversing a bit more than necessary, and we narrowly missed the tour boat coming by (by a couple of inches).

Some others took their turns driving (especially when Elizabeth started sharing that she was occasionally forgetting to pay attention to steering). Allan had to pee really bad starting around ⅓ of the way into the trip, but he refused to let us drop him off on shore to use the bathroom.

Once the boat tour ended (around 7:30pm), we stopped back by the hostel for a bit before heading to get a slice of pizza at Diamond Slice, followed by drinks and more card games at Toro Bar.

We then walked back to the hostel and slept around 1am.
