Today was our first day in Lisbon (Logan didn’t come until the next day). Since we all took redeye flights (and none of us can really sleep on planes), it was a pretty standard first day in Europe. Jack and Brad arrived before Benton, and opted to drop off luggage, roam around Cais das Pombas, and grab food.
Benton made it a bit later, and we were able to eat lunch nearby the luggage storage place before heading to the Airbnb to check in. Bolt is the service we used to call a rideshare (similar to Uber but cheaper), and as soon as we called a Bolt from the luggage storage to the Airbnb, the entire road we were on got shut down. About 5 minutes later, a far right anti-immigration looking protest came by.
Our Bolt driver was amused by the situation even though it definitely slowed things down, and we made it to the Airbnb fine (it was located right above LA MATTA PIZZERIA). After showering/chilling at the Airbnb for a bit (Benton took a quick 15 minute power nap), we headed to get dinner nearby (Brad and Benton got a salty code dish crusted with phyllo dough; it ended up being way more food than expected; it was tasty).
Once dinner finished, we were surprised by how much energy everyone had (we were still tired; just not the usual “running on fumes” energy). In order to try and stay up a bit later, we decided to grab a drink somewhere, and we walked down to Outro Lado Craft Beer, and had some beers (none of us got it, but there were some crazy sours; ice cream sour for instance).
By the time we finished our drinks, it was late enough (~10pm) to call it a night, so we walked the 15ish minutes back to the Airbnb (we discovered that our street was quite busy at night; lots of bars with street seating). We then slept.
