Elizabeth + Roger Arrive, Roam Aimlessly

Benton
Allan
Ryan
Elizabeth
Roger

This morning, the weather wasn’t great (cold with some misty rain off and on). Ryan went for a nice run and ended up over near Belvedere Palace, while Benton and Allan did some work. (In general, Benton had gotten the green light from his manager that he could work much more random hours this year, so it made sense to work in the morning before the other members of our group arrived, since that would free up more time in the evening to hang out).

Once Ryan got back, we went to grab some brunch at Kaffeeamt (some super dense cheese on toast type food which was tasty). After the café, we went back to the Airbnb to work a bit more and wait for others to arrive;

Both Elizabeth and Roger arrived around 1pm, at which point we started making our way to Belvedere Palace. We also grabbed lunch at Leberkas-Pepi Wien Operngasse on the way (basically hotdog sandwiches where the hot dog is in the form of a loaf). Benton got the horse meat option and really enjoyed his food; the others were not as big of fans. We also (rather funnily) grabbed some coffee after lunch, but we took a long time to find a café (mostly Benton’s fault in making some poor choices on Google maps), but then we got on transit to go to Belvedere palace.

Upon arriving at the palace, we discovered that the tickets were sold out for the day, so we decided to continue roaming (in the rain). After roaming for a bit without much of a goal, we decided it would be best to just go back to the Airbnb and hang out while we dried off for a bit (which also served as an opportunity for Benton and Allan to work a bit more)..

For dinner, we took a Bolt to a traditional Viennese restaurant (chosen by Allan), which turned out to be a massive tourist trap. Nonetheless, we got schnitzel (Allan got some pretty terrible goulash). After dinner, we tried to walk around to find a bar, but discovered that most of the bars in the area were closed, and it was eerily quiet, so we decided to go back to the main part of the city (which Google claimed was more lively). We ended up closing a bar (at like 11pm), and then we just walked back to the Airbnb to hang out for a while until sleeping.

Overall, we were just surprised how there didn’t seem to be people anywhere we went in the city.
